Andrew, what Joe Hildebrand and the Telegraph did to you is absolutely unforgivable, using you as flavour of the month to convey this fake image of Australia as a nation of larrikins with senses of humour (presumably coupled with the wit and intelligence of 10 year olds given how stupid that Telstra ad was in the first place) knowing full well that you'd be abused in the process. And the abuse you received in the form of all these homophobic bile-filled comments on your site is just sickening, ALL OF WHICH further strengthens your original argument in the first place - that homosexual rights are non-existent because the equality is lacking in our society to be able to recognise it, never mind lobby for it. Isn't it fascinating too that you were labelled as being 'Un-Australian' when the actual response you copped featured such vicious and despicable ventings to such an extent that we, as a nation, should be utterly ashamed about.

No one mentions that though. Because in 'Ostraya' we just enjoy stupid TV and news articles where we can secretly point and laugh and vent anger towards gay people behind the veil of anonymity of the internet. Or not-so-secretly in the case of 'Ray from Brookvale Mazda'.

(I think it says something that the homophobes also left comments championing white supremacy - suggesting a rather convenient link between non-whites and homosexuality? 2 birds with 1 stone, efficient! But what of the more direct link between Joe and his 'Gays are going to Hell' article? Not news-worthy, apparently. )

It's nice to see that Tanya Plibersek cares, but one person can only do so much when the 'higher-ups' in the political hierarchy prevent the issue from getting any attention because, well, simply because it isn't election time. As for Kevin Rudd, it's nice to see that he enjoyed Avatar and is kind enough to let us, the common people, know. Wow, we can really identify with him!!

I wish you all the best with your cause.
