(I think it says something that the homophobes also left comments championing white supremacy – suggesting a rather convenient link between non-whites and homosexuality? 2 birds with 1 stone, efficient! But what of the more direct link between Joe and his ‘Gays are going to Hell’ article? Not news-worthy, apparently. )

It’s nice to see that Tanya Plibersek cares, but one person can only do so much when the ‘higher-ups’ in the political hierarchy prevent the issue from getting any attention because, well, simply because it isn’t election time. As for Kevin Rudd, it’s nice to see that he enjoyed Avatar and is kind enough to let us, the common people, know. Wow, we can really identify with him!!

I see your current point and think it’s valid, but the fact is that the whole issue was apparently spurred by the Telstra ad, and people aren’t going to forget that. The ad itself simply wasn’t offensive, and those who are offended by it (who I can only assume are few and far between) need to realize that they are clearly the more sensitive types and do, in fact, need to “get over it”, for lack of a more sympathetic term.

So even if your current position is one that should be addressed, it’s not going to be discussed seriously at this point. Sad, but true. I’d say just let it go and start again from a new angle if this is something you’re serious about.

And not that it should make much of a difference, but I am a gay man myself. And I was sent the link to the ad and associated news stories by one of the many gay men who was responsible for creating the ad in the first place.

How indicative of ‘non-homophobic’ Australia that, as soon as the opportunity presents itself through what is essentially the tabloid media, all the anger and hatred is vented behind the mask of internet anonymity. Such as the one above, no doubt written by someone who is a bona-fide proud Aussie.

The treatment you’ve copped has been a fucking disgrace and a real wake up call as to how developed the people of this country like to think they are.
